"Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward.” -1 Sam 16:13
The story of David and Goliath is one of the most widely known stories, where the underdog defeats the giant oppressor. But who really was the underdog? Was it David or Goliath? Understanding David's anointing and subsequent overflowing of the Spirit will answer this for us. The simple answer is this David didn't defeat Goliath--God did! David was only a willing vessel. God through David did many great things. Yes David had giant faith, yes David was a man after God's own heart, and yes David had previously defeated a bear and a lion. But it was the Spirit of the Lord that enabled David to kill Goliath, and be victorious in so many battles to follow.
David was a great man because He submitted to a greater God! God can use you greatly if you allow Him to overfill every area of your life with His Spirit. Galatians 3:3 says "How foolish can you be? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?" (NLT) See God wants us to have victory but not by our own human effort but by Spiritual means, by His strengths and power living in us.
So make it your daily effort to remove yourself from the equation and allow God to be Lord and do His thing through you!

- WHAT'S THE HARDEST PART ABOUT REMOVING YOUR FLESH FROM THE EQUATION? HAVE YOU ASKED THE LORD TO FILL YOU WITH HIS SPIRIT TODAY?
- “If the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from the church today, 95 percent of what we do would go on and no one would know the difference. If the Holy spirit had been withdrawn from the New Testament church, 95 percent of what they did would stop, and everybody would know the difference.” -A.W. Tozer
