"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have [the gift of] prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing." -1 Corinthians 13:1-3
I was reading an article the other day about how important every ingredient used in baking a cupcake really is. For example if you bake a cupcake but forget to put the butter or margarine in it, the cupcake will puff up and turn out dry on the inside. If you forget the eggs the cupcake will not bond properly and it will turn out hollow on the inside with a bunch of hot air. If you leave the baking powder out it will leave the cupcake flat, dense, and with a hard texture. Likewise with the exercise of the spiritual gifts, and everything we do for that matter, if they lack love it will turn out bad, Because love is the main ingredient in everything we do. When we exercise the gifts of the Spirit without the fruit of the Spirit we will always come short. No matter how eloquent I am in my speech, what I know, or what I can do with what I have, if there is no love what I do is meaningless. We'll turn out just like the cupcakes that were lacking; puffed up, bitter, hard, empty and full of hot air.
