"And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; 6 For whom the LORD loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives." 7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?" -Hebrews 12:5-7
As a Christian it was hard for me to accept the Lord's discipline in my life, I didn't really understand the purpose of a real father other than be someone who punishes you when you're bad. But as I came to know my heavenly Father more and more through His word. I've learned to embrace any discipline that comes my way knowing the HE does it because He loves me and doesn't want me to rebel or stray away from His precepts. He knows just the right amount of correction that you and I need and He will faithfully administer it like the loving Parent that He is. For if God did not discipline us we would then have to question if we are really sons and daughters.
God's correction is to make you better not bitter. So learn to accept correction and ride out the trial for it will lead you to the place of obedience where fruit is found.
- HOW HAS DIVINE DISCIPLINE MADE YOU THE PERSON YOU ARE TODAY? WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ABUSE AND LOVING CORRECTION?
- "A believer may pass through much affliction, and yet secure very little blessing from it all. Abiding in Christ is the secret of securing all that the Father meant the chastisement to bring us." - Andrew Murray
