“The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.” -Prov 14:1
Families are the fabric of our nation, when godly principles are upheld in the home it affects the community in a positive way, but when God is disregarded we see the opposite effect on our communities and nation. For example adultery leads to divorce, which leads to single parenting, which then leads to neglect of the children because the main nurturer becomes the main provider. Usually in homes where the father is not present children grow up rebellious and lacking proper discipline. Now while there are strong mothers worthy of praise who have done a formidable job filling the shoes of both parents, that is not always the case and they are usually the minority. Statistics show that when there are two parents; a father and mother, children are less likely to get in trouble with the law and or become pregnant as an adolescent. I am an example of the former.
The wisdom that proverbs is trying to give us here is that we as parents and leaders of our home can either build it or destroy it. Listen two parents isn’t enough we need God in the mix and the wisdom found in His word to build a godly home. You can have two parents but if one neglects their duty as a godly father or mother they can tear their home down instead of build it up. For example sometimes what we deposit in our bank account is withdrawn from our home account. This happens when on account of our house (property) we are always working. Some neglect their home because they want the house. Some provide for the house but not for the home. There is bread on the table but the Bread of Life is never there. I’ve seen it happen where you have professing Christians who are well off - financially stable, and providing for the material needs of the house but the home is neglected, everyone does their own thing. There are conversation about school, work and education, but God’s word and His wisdom is nowhere to be found. Don’t lose your home to build your house (or anything else for that matter)
While this may not be the only example of tearing down what we should be building up, the point is to be wise and put God first in our household, and to avoid the foolish neglect of God’s authority. See if you put God first in your family you might lose your house but you will never lose your home. God is always faithful to provide if we put His kingdom first, and that includes His purposes and will for ours and our families lives. (Mt 6:33)
