"..Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend [it] on your pleasures." -Jam 4:2-3
There are two definite prayer life killers: not asking and asking for the wrong things. First God knows our needs before we ever make mention of them, but He needs to hear your need in heaven before you can see the answer to your need on earth, that's how prayer works. Like Elijah prayed to heaven then came the rains from heaven so too prayer must go up before an answer can come down. (5:18)
Secondly another problem is not that we don't pray but that we pray for the wrong things. If you're praying for something sinful, selfish, or silly don't expect God to answer you with a "yes". Your prayers must line up with your true needs and with the will of God for your life.
Pray, pray right, be selfless in your prayers, think of others and think of God and He will give you all you need.

- "Prayer is our secret weapon too, and we don't use it enough. We will try everything else, but how often do we seriously pray? Prayer is frequently the last resort, the only thing left to do after we have exhausted all other options. But the first thing we should do is pray." -Greg Laurie
