“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season
we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” -Gal 6:9
we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” -Gal 6:9
Life is full of seasons, we leave one season only to enter another season. Recently a relative of mine–a mother–lost her four year old daughter in a sudden car accident. She has just entered one of the worst kinds of seasons, a terrible season of mourning and grieving.
What are we to do about the seasons we find ourselves in? Do we just tough them out? Do we call it quits? One thing Paul knew to do was to find contentment in every season he found himself in; “I have learned in whatever state I am in to be content––I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil 4:11, 13)
In order to face every season that comes our way, we must KNOW what season we are in; FIND Christ in the season; and WORK through the season. Knowing and diagnosing the season will help us to better face the season we are in. Also acknowledging that we are in a God-given season helps us recognize that it is only for a time, and that God is sovereignly overseeing the season we are in. We might be under and in our season, but He is over and above our season. And we can find the strength we need in our season by looking for Christ in the season. When we find Christ we find strength, when we find strength we find contentment.
Lastly after we know our season and tap into Christ in our season, we can now take heart and work through the season, sowing seeds by “doing good” in our season. For when we sow to others we can reap to ourselves in “due season”, if we focus on others and in God’s kingdom in whatever state we are in we will reap the blessings of God on our life.
Not every season is the same, some are hard and some are easy–in some we sow and in others we reap. All in all though just as every season on earth affects the life and productivity of the earth so too every season we encounter will have the effect God wants it to have on us.
