“Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset.” -Exodus 17:12 (NLT)
The Amalekites had begun to attack the children of Israel so Moses sent out Joshua and some troops to go fight. Moses however remained behind and raised up his staff to the air. Now as long as the staff was elevated the Israelites would continue to win the battle but if he lowered his hands they would begin to lose the battle. Aaron and Hur, leaders subservient to Moses, noticed that he was getting tired and having trouble keeping the staff elevated. So they brought a stone to support him, and they stood by him, and held his hands up. And as a result Joshua overcame the Amalekites and the battle was won.
Listen in our lives we will face battles. And the key to winning battles is to elevate God in our lives by obeying His word as Moses did. But also battles must be won in unity, by working together to support and uplift one another. Galatians 6:2 tells us to “bear one another's burdens”. When we are faithful to pray for one another we are helping to win the battle. When we support the leaders in our life whether it be the husband in the household or our pastor at church we are helping to win the battle. So let us not stand Idlee or try to take another's staff away but let us have victory by supporting and uplifting each other, and those over us. And God will bless it just as he did with the Israelites.
