“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His gracious love exists forever. Let those who have been redeemed by the Lord declare it—those whom He redeemed from the power of the enemy,” -Psalm 107:1-2 ISV
Many don't know this but the words gratitude and thanksgiving are both rooted in the word grace. Thanksgiving is all about grace, and grace is about receiving God's unmerited favor. Psalm 107:1-2 gives us three reasons why we should be thankful, and they are all bound up and rooted in the person and work of God.
First we should be thankful because "the Lord..He is good". You might say "well that's obvious Albert", but as obvious as it is many Christians live as if they believed the contrary. Some have bought into the lie of the enemy, the same lie that Eve fell for; that somehow God is not good as He says He is, and that He is holding out on us. If you believe this lie you're probably bitter and/or a discontent person. Instead one should look to the person of God alone and understand that He is good regardless of what one has or doesn't have.
Secondly we should be thankful because God is love. And not just any love but an everlasting, all enduring, sent My Son to the cross for your sins kind of a love.. (that keeps on giving) It's a living breathing, death defeating, rolling stone out of the grave and into the heavens kind of a love! Is that not reason enough to be thankful?
This leads us to our 3rd reason for thanksgiving; the Lord has redeemed us, He has bought us back with His blood. We are free because of Him and Him alone. The way to be thankful is to "declare" this good news to the world. If we have received the greatest gift (salvation through Christ) then it stands to say that we Christians should be the most thankful people on the planet.
God is good, God is love, and God is redeemer. Thanksgiving is good news!

- WHEN YOU START FEELING DOWN OR DISCONTENT WITH WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE THINK NOT ON WHAT YOU DO HAVE BUT ON WHO YOU HAVE. HE MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE!
- “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” -James MacDonald
