"For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?" -1 Samuel 17:26
I love the progression of this chapter. In the past few days we've seen how Goliath comes down and makes the Israelites shake in their boots with fear--taunting and mocking God's people. But now David the giant slayer comes into the scene and hears about their giant problem. David's response is very revealing in that it shows us that we should put things into perspective first before facing our giants. See David wasn't concerned about how big or how strong the problem was,--No he was concerned with who God is! In other words if I can liberally paraphrase what David says here is "who does this heathen think he is treating God's people this way, does he not know that we serve a living God?" See before facing any giant in our lives we need to remember that we serve a living God--a bigger GIANT who is on our side. God is bigger than your problems, and He will always be. So let's put things in order, put God first not your problem. If all you can see is how big the obstacle is before you, you will surely fail. But if you put God first and keep your eyes on who He is you will always come victorious!
