“..your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.” -Mat 6:8b
In Matthew chapter six Jesus gave His disciples instructions on how to pray–a model prayer really. But right before He tells them how to pray He points their hearts to the omniscience of God the Father, by telling them that before they utter a single prayer the Father already knows what it is they need. In doing so Jesus not only reveals a theological truth pertaining to the character of God, but He makes prayer a personal intimate thing between children and their father.
When you pray remember you are not praying to a distant God that is not aware of your existence, but a very personal God who sees us as his very own children, who has given us the privilege to call Him Father, and who knows our every need. God formed us and made us to begin with. He is our manufacturer and He wrote the instructions needed for our physical and spiritual maintenance. But He also loves us and wants the best for us just as parents want the best for their children.
Understanding the intimacy we have with the Father and trusting in His sovereignty to know all things, will help us have the right attitude as we approach the throne of grace.
