"Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others." -Col 3:13
Forgiveness is a repeated topic in the scriptures, and rightly so because the gospel is all about forgiveness. Forgiveness can be a hard thing to do but it is even harder if you yourself have not been forgiven of your sins. Those that have experienced life saving forgiveness from the Lord are now able to forgive in the Lord. We have the ability to retain forgiveness ie. unforgiveness, or we can release others by forgiving them, as it has been done unto us so we should do unto others.
The word used for allowance is usually rendered "forebearing" which means to hold up or endure. The idea behind allowance though is to "make room" or "hold up space" for the sins and faults of those around us.
Don't be a closet space Christian; a believer who has little room for the mistakes of others in their lives. Actually we should have a mansion of space to make allowance for others, 70 X 7 is the square footage that Jesus gave Peter. As Christians we need to be mobile storages, not by harboring unforgiveness, but by having plenty of room to tolerate others and therefore show the love of Christ.
