“Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” -Mark 1:17
Throughout the scriptures we see God calling people who were already occupied with something. Elisha was busy working with his oxen. Moses, David and Amos were busy with their flock, and Mathew the tax collector was busy counting money. Peter and the gang were no different when Jesus came to call them. Peter's family had a family fishing business and they had gone all night without a catch. No doubt they were exhausted and upset as they were wrapping up. Yet Jesus chose this time to go and catch them.
Jesus calls busy people but not all busy people follow Jesus. Going to church, spending time in prayer and the word, serving, and evangelizing will be inconvenient at times but that's ok because what He has to offer us is always a bigger catch. While God might not be calling most to suddenly drop their livelihood at a moments notice He is calling us all to choose Him over other things and to make Him first in our lives. Because the excuse "I was too busy" isn't going to fly when He calls us home.
