“the people stood afar off, but Moses drew near the thick darkness where God was.” -Exodus 20:21
We tend to think of light as good and darkness as evil. We read about the radiance of God and of the angels, of Jesus transfigured, and we see Saul of Tarsus blinded because Jesus shined brighter than the noon day sun. Yet in all this God is not confined to the light, after all He did create the light, and the enemy as well can disguise himself as "an angel of light". God is above the light, darkness and all matter, whether visible or invisible. When I hear about God being in "the thick darkness" I am not discouraged but encouraged by His awesome omnipresence. God can manifest Himself as He pleases when He pleases, whether it be a burning bush, or a Man with a burning heart (Jesus). I believe that it is in the darkest places in our live's that God can shine the brightest. Maybe you feel discouraged, in a dark place, not expecting to hear from God where you are at. Rest assured God is there and He wants to minister to you powerfully. If you open His word.. if you open your heart,.. and if you open your mouth, He will speak. If we embrace this thought we too can shine the brightest in the darkest. No matter where we're at. Remember you too are called "the light of the world" (Mat 5:14) and you can shine brighter for His glory in the dark and anywhere else.
