"Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” -John 13:8
I'm at a pastor's and leaders conference right now and I'm getting the priviledge to sit under many great teachers and be ministered to by them. But I can easily thwart and resist their ministering efforts by refusing to take in all that they're saying, in reality all God is saying. When we entertain an attitude of "I've heard this already", or when we refuse to be changed by God's word spoken forth to us we are resisting what God wants to do in us. When it came time for Peter to get his feet washed by Jesus, he strongly refused and resisted Him. This prompted Jesus to tell him that if he didn't allow Jesus to minister to him he would not have any part with Him. Here Jesus spoke of fellowship (continual foot cleansing) not salvation (one time bath). You see our fellowship with the Lord and the blessings that come from that highly depend on our intimacy and willingness to receive from Christ and His Servants. When we come to church (or a conference) but refuse to be changed we are no different than Peter here. Don't resist Christ but persist in Christ. Don't put your foot in your mouth put it in His hands.
- IN WHAT WAYS HAVE YOU RESISTED THE SPIRIT? HOW CAN YOU CULTIVATE A SENSITIVITY AND A FLEXIBILITY TO GOD'S WORD?
